Ayurveda

What is Ayurveda

Ayurveda is the oldest medical system in India. Its origins go back to the ancient Vedas and its wisdom is contained in the Hindu sacred texts (5,000 BC).

Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word that means “the knowledge of life”, since it is a spiritual and integral science that gives us a better understanding of the universe of matter, mind and consciousness.

The laws of nature are the basis of Ayurveda and consider that an individual is a replica of the universe; a miniature universe. Human beings come from nature, we are an integral part of the universe and we have a responsibility to it. That is why, Ayurveda seeks to live in harmony according to biological rhythms and the laws of nature, awakening the attention and consciousness of the individual with the aim of knowing himself and thus being able to choose according to what is beneficial for each person. The way in which the individual decides what to eat, how much to eat, at what times of the day, what exercise to do or not do, at what time to sleep, determines an important factor in the quality of life and physical and mental health.
The way in which life is lived is the main determining factor in its health and quality, and at the same time it is one of the factors where we have greater control.

This science has designed a lifestyle for well-being, as well as a medical system for the treatment of acute and chronic diseases; where each individual is unique and, therefore, a suitable treatment or medication for one person does not have to be for another.

Each person is made up of a combination of the five elements (Air, Ether, Fire, Earth and Water), these elements merge with each other and give rise to Tri-dosha (Vata, Pitta and Kapha). Each Dosha means a type of biological energy. As in nature, day and night, all seasons of the year, rains, plants and animals, the existence of all this depends on the balance of this Tri-dosha.

Ayurveda works by reinforcing opposites; “The similar is the cause of the increase of all things and the different is the cause of the decrease”, it is extremely important to understand what is this proportion of Doshas that one has in the body in order to apply the law of opposites in case of there is an imbalance.
The balance of these three brings health and happiness, while the imbalance of these causes aging, physical and psychological diseases, among others.

Ayurveda’s conceptual and operational framework is broad enough to include everything that is essential for a human being to be healthy and happy. Includes the study of correct behavior (Dharma) and deals with the philosophical aspect of life, whose knowledge contributes greatly to the comfort and happiness of all human beings.

In this way of connecting and self-healing, different alternatives are integrated; Food, Meditation, Daily Routines, Exercises, Relaxation, Pranayamas, Habits of life, Contemplation, among others. Aiming to balance our mind, body and spirit.

The same focus is also found in Yoga, which, contrary to general belief, is not simply a system of physical practice. Yoga is a step-by-step system for peace, well-being, and harmony at all levels of human existence.
